Discovery Kids is the name we give to the fantastic children’s activity that is held on Sunday mornings at the Elim Christian Centre located in Hall Street Chelmsford. Discovery Kids has been chosen as the name of our children’s ministry, for 0-11yr olds, as it represents the fact that children can discover for themselves the reality of the Christian faith in today’s world – that they too can experience the joy of having a personal relationship with Jesus – the Saviour of the World. About Us Discovery Kids (and its predecessors) have been providing quality interactive Christian children’s activities for over 50 years. It is our mission to allow children to:-  ‘Discover the Christian Truth in today’s world’. We encourage children to explore the truths of the Christian faith and the Bible and to begin an adventure in discovering how it is relevant for them, as children, in their world. We also challenge the children to apply this in their everyday lives in practical ways so that they make a difference. We believe the best way to achieve this goal is to deliver the best 90 minutes of fun packed activities we possibly can. If you think church is boring, then you’re going to the wrong one! Elim Christian Centre is many things, but it is not boring! Discovery Kids appreciates that an engaged and involved child leads to a well educated child. Our focus is on Christian teaching but our methods are fun! We value every one of our Discovery Kids children and aim to build their self esteem during their time with us. What you can expect   We operate during the Sunday morning service - from 10:30 until the end of the meeting (approximately 12) The children are grouped by age so that they can take part in activities that are suitable and relevant to them. We use an interactive teaching programme which includes craft work, colouring, games, stories, drama, singing specially written modern Christian songs, and much more. The groups and activities are staffed by a team of over 65 volunteers. Each age group is led by a person who has overall responsibility for that group and for managing their team, In addition the group leaders collectively have overall responsibility for looking after Discovery Kids as a whole.   These are our key leaders for Discovery Kids.   Crèche          0 to 2 yr olds           Davina Stoneham Rainbows       3 to 5 yr olds           Joy Richardson Explorers       6 to 7 yr olds           Julie Gilbey Adventurers   8 & 9 yr olds            Paul Richardson Challengers    10 to 11 yr olds        Heidi Merriam In addition, Alison Barker and Mary Willis are also leaders. Alison heads up our Welcome Team and also undertakes various administrative duties. Mary heads up our training programme and is responsible for organising our team of musicians and worship leaders Whilst these names may not be familiar to you, they have many years experience (some over 30 years!) in teaching as well as looking after and caring for children.   Facts   - Discovery Kids currently runs using an organised volunteer staff of over 65. - We have over 130 children on our registers – with room for many more! - Each group has its own room so that the children are kept within a safe    environment.   - Our facilities include an enclosed outdoor play area for use during the      summer.   - On occasions, throughout the year, Discovery Kids play an active role in the main church services including attending their worship time at least once a month.   Contact Us Phone: 01245 358855 Email Address: discoverykids@elim.org More news soon.....
